Students use the course action form to make changes in their schedules that they cannot make themselves using ISIS. A student cannot use ISIS to add a course if:

  • the course is restricted in such a way that the student does not meet the restrictions;
  • the course is full;
  • permission of the instructor is required;
  • the student wants to exceed the maximum or drop below the minimum number of credits allowed;
  • the student has missed the add/drop deadline; or
  • the student's access to ISIS has been suspended or a registration block is in place.

Departments in the College of Arts and Sciences may not add or drop courses once the relevant deadlines have passed, nor may they make changes to a student's record if the student is exceeding the maximum or dropping below the minimum number of credits allowed. Refer such requests to the dean's office in Garrett Hall. Departments in the College of Arts and Sciences should enter changes for students taking courses only within that department (i.e., a student majoring in drama who wants to add into an English course which is full or restricted should take a course action form signed by the English instructor to the English department, not the drama department.)

If the student cannot use ISIS because she or he is not properly registered, has had access suspended, or has a registration block, the problem must be cleared up before processing a course action form. Students should not use a course action form to circumvent a registration block on ISIS.

Monitoring Your Course
You can review your course enrollment in a number of ways. The on-line course offerings show the number of students enrolled in your course as of the last update (updates occur about three times per day). The Instructional Toolkit shows the number and names of students as of the end of the previous day. Enrollment figures in real time are available from the CMI function is ISIS. CMI also indicates if any course restrictions are in place for the course, which can then be reviewed on the CRT screen (see Course Restrictions).

A way to review the actual enrollment of a number of courses without having to select each one individually on the CMI function—particularly useful if you want to determine which sections of a course are still open—is to use the CMR or CSR functions in ISIS. Data on these screens must be selected by faculty group (e.g., ASF for Arts and Sciences, ENF for Engineering, etc.).

CMR and CSR also allows you to restrict your search by entering a department, course mnemonic, or course number. If all three fields are left blank, you get a listing of all courses within the faculty group you have entered. If ENGL is listed in the department field, you get all English courses, but if ENWR is listed in the course mnemonic field you get a list of only English writing courses. You can further restrict your search by entering a specific course mnemonic and number (such as ENWR 110).

Class Rolls
Class rolls are available through the Instructional Toolkit and the uvai e-mail service (see instructions on the Course Information page). The CLR function allows you to view a listing of all the students enrolled in a particular course.

To Add a Course in ISIS:

  • Choose function RAD. Enter the ID number and term, and press the PF12 (select) key. Tab down to the schedule number field at the bottom of the screen. Enter the schedule number (which the student has listed on the form) of the course to be added. Press the PF12 (select) key.
  • Verify that the course mnemonic and number shown on the screen match those listed on the form. Press the PF6 (update) key.
  • The course now appears in the middle display field of the screen. Make sure the message "COURSE SUCCESSFULLY ADDED" appears on the message line at the bottom of the screen.
  • Enter the next schedule number and so on until all courses have been added. File the course action form for future reference, and keep it for one semester.
To Drop a Course in ISIS:
  • Choose function RAD. Enter the ID number and the term, and press the PF12 (select) key. The student's current courses appear in the middle section of the screen. Using the "new line" or tab key, place the cursor next to the course to be dropped and press the <PF12> (select) key.
  • The course appears in the bottom section of the screen. Enter "d" in the ACTN CODE field. (To delete a course instead of dropping it, enter "*" instead of "d".) Press the <PF6> (update) key.
  • Make sure the message "COURSE SUCCESSFULLY DROPPED" appears on the message line at the bottom of the screen.
To Change Hours Carried, Grading Option, or Instructor Number:
  • Choose function RAD. Enter the ID number and the term, and press the <PF12> (select) key. The student's current courses appear in the middle section of the screen. Using the "new line" or tab key, place the cursor next to the course to be updated and press the <PF12> (select) key.
  • The course now appears in the bottom section of the screen. Enter "u" in the ACTN CODE field and enter the new data. Press the <PF6> (update) key.
  • Make sure the message "COURSE SUCCESSFULLY CHANGED" appears on the message line at the bottom of the screen.
