History and Mission

History and Mission

In 1915, the University organized a Bureau of Extension to make its academic resources more available to all of the citizens of Virginia. In the subsequent decades, the University has been called upon to do far more for the Commonwealth. The Division of Continuing Education creates opportunities for adults to participate in off-grounds study based on the University's research and teaching strengths. Through the Division's programs:
