Medical Scientist Training Program (MD-Ph.D.)

The University of Virginia is one of only 33 NIH-funded MST programs in the country, offering students a combined degree program for those interested in a career in academic medicine. Training for the Ph.D. degree is usually in one of the biomedical science programs, which include Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Biophysics, and Neuroscience. The course of study is individually designed over a seven-year period to fulfill the candidate’s specific interest in clinical research .
