How to Certify Enrollment and Degrees

Current Students | Alumni | Employers and Educational Institutions | Diploma Copies

The official provider of enrollment and degree certifications for the University of Virginia is the National Student Clearinghouse. Certifications can be used for insurance companies, scholarships, military I.D.s, prospective employment, and all other services that require proof of enrollment at the University of Virginia or having received a degree.

All requests for degree or enrollment certification that our office receives will take five to ten business days to process. We strongly encourage taking advantage of the speed and convenience of the National Student Clearinghouse services.

Students should submit forms for loan deferrals to this office. We will then forward the forms to the National Student Clearinghouse for processing.

Current Students

The National Student Clearinghouse is the official provider of enrollment certifications. If you need an enrollment certification for current enrollment, past enrollment, or anticipated date of graduation, it may be obtained by the National Student Clearinghouse.
  • Log in using your Netbadge username and password.
  • Select radio button for “current enrollment” or “all enrollment”
  • Select “Obtain an enrollment certificate”

By using a secure login, you will automatically be redirected to the National Student Clearinghouse website. You may view or print enrollment information at any time. The enrollment certifications received by this process are official, and may be used for insurance companies, employers, scholarships, or other agencies. There is no charge for this service.

If the certification of enrollment requires credit hours or GPA you may request the certification in the form of a transcript. Click here for information on how to order a transcript.

Enrollment Reporting: Initial enrollment data will be submitted the first day of classes. Enrollment information will be re-submitted each month during both fall and spring semesters.

Diploma Copies

If you need a copy of your diploma for certification purposes, we recommend that you first verify that some other document won't serve the purpose. Usually, companies or government agencies are looking for official proof of graduation, and only in rare cases involving foreign governments is a diploma copy actually needed. A certification or transcript can be obtained for less cost and in less time; diploma copies cost $50 and require 8-10 weeks to prepare (click here for information on how to order a diploma).

If you do in fact need a copy of your diploma for certification purposes, we recommend that you take your original diploma to a full-service copy center and have an 8.5" x 11" photocopy made. Then, mail that photocopy to UREG (Office of the University Registrar) and we can certify and notarize it as being a true copy of the original.
