The community Standards of Conduct of the University of Virginia are premised upon the belief that students have both rights and responsibilities, and that they are expected to actively participate in the governance of their own behaviors and the affairs of the community. First-year students attend several orientation meetings that describe and outline the rules and regulations that students agree to abide by when they enter the University of Virginia.
