The University of Virginia prides itself on being a warm and caring community. Membership in this community means looking out for the safety and well-being of our peers. Our goal is to foster an atmosphere of concern for others, so that we can encourage persons who appear to be troubled or distressed to seek help. Sometimes, we need to seek help on their behalf because we are concerned about them. If we can help people with their problems at early stages, we can also prevent the rare cases that might escalate into violence.
