College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences
Creating a new breed of leader for the 21st century
With a curriculum spanning the natural sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences, the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is the largest of the University’s schools and serves as the intellectual core of Thomas Jefferson’s original vision for the Academical Village. The College represents the model for a 21st-century liberal arts education that values cross-disciplinary scholarship and equips its students with a nimbleness of mind, a depth of historic understanding and an ability to philosophically investigate issues in a variety of fields. Empowering them to explore ideas, evaluate evidence critically and communicate and defend original thinking, the College and Graduate School prepares its graduates to flourish in their chosen fields as informed and engaged citizens.
