Take Back the Night Rally, March and Speak Out/Vigil

Nameless Field with a rain site at Memorial Gym

Reclaim what has always belonged to us by rallying and marching against violence against women and bearing witness to survivors’ experiences in our community. Meet for an inspiring rally at Nameless Field and then march to the UVA Amphitheater for a Survivors’ Speak Out. The Speak Out is open to any survivor of gender-based violence wishing to share: Tell your story, sing a song, perform a dance, read a poem—it’s your time to be heard. Survivors who wish to participate may simply come up to the tent by the stage, or send an email to sdvs@virginia.edu in advance.

Room to Breathe

Feeling the need to chill, or looking for a quiet space that feels safe? Come by the U.Va. Women’s Center and get acquainted with Room to Breathe, a newly decorated quiet space for stressed people to regain some calm. Funded by the U.Va. Women’s Club and The White Ribbon Campaign, Room to Breathe was designed with survivors in mind. (Chocolate and books included!)

Please join us for coffee, tea and bagels. Counseling staff will be available for informal conversations about our services, self-care, trauma stewardship or any other topics of interest.

The Glass Palette
Located at 1304 E. Market St. Suite W, Charlottesville, VA 22902

Break some glass, and turn it into something you’ll treasure forever. Come to this fused glass workshop for survivors of trauma at The Glass Palette, led by Claire Kaplan, Director of Sexual & Domestic Violence Services. Otherwise, cost per person is approximately $25, depending on the project you choose to make. Word of caution: Individuals who are prone to self-injury need to let us know if they plan to attend so that we can strategize for your safety during and following the class. Scholarships are offered on a first-come, first-served basis (10 max). To reserve a subsidized space, email cnk2r@virginia.edu.
