Our design process involves intensive meetings with community groups—listening and translating their ideals and ideas into a design that resonates with the UVA community, the community of Charlottesville, and visitors from around the country and abroad.
Our team has conceived of a project methodology that includes three phases during the initial design period:
Research and Listening - Analysis and Interpretation - Site Selection and Concept Design
Because the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers must address multiple constituencies, the design process needs to be inclusive and participatory at the appropriate moments in the process. During each stage, we are convening meetings with the various stakeholders and decision making groups.
