Why give to the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures?
With the continued decline in state funding for the College of Arts
and Sciences, the role of private giving has become ever more important.
Your tax-deductible contribution can play a significant role in enhancing
the core educational mission of the Slavic Department. Even
a modest gift can bring significant benefits to our community of motivated
students and dedicated teachers.
To build a community of engaged students and outstanding
scholars
Here are some of the ways in which your donation will help our students
and faculty thrive:
- Bringing distinguished speakers to the University to share
their knowledge and experience with our students and faculty
- Supporting the Russian House, a central site for community activities,
from weekly conversation hours to film screenings and evenings of poetry
and music
- Subscription to foreign-language publications
- Supporting special collaborative events, including the recent exhibition
of modern Russian children's books at the University of Virginia library
- Providing travel funds enabling students and faculty to participate
in academic conferences or conduct scholarly research in distant locales
- Underwriting awards for distinctive academic achievement by undergraduate
and graduate students
- Creating opportunities for students and faculty to meet in cultural
experiences outside the classroom, such as traveling to see Tchaikovsky's
opera Eugene Onegin in Richmond
These are just some of the ways you can make a difference
to our community. We
would also love to hear about your interests and share ideas on possible
initiatives to pursue in the future!
