R25 Client Installation Instructions

Requirements for R25 client installation:
Microsoft Windows 2000 or later
128mb RAM
CPU Speed: 333 mHz
Internet Explorer 5.1 or later
200mb Hard Drive space


1. Install Crystal Reports:
  1. Double click on the crw85rt.exe file.
  2. If prompted with a Windows security message , click Run.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click Finish.


2. Install MDAC 2.8 (for Windows 200 only):
  1. Double click on the MDAC_TYP.EXE file.
  2. If prompted with a Windows security message , click Run.
    1. For Windows XP, you should get a message stating that this update is already installed.
    2. For Windows 2000, this file will install automatically.


3. Create ODBC connection:
  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Choose Control Panel.
  4. Double click on Administrative Tools.
  5. Double click on Data Sources (ODBC).
  6. Click on the System DSN tab.
  7. Click on the Add button.
  8. Choose SQL Server and click Finish.
  9. In the Name field, enter r25
  10. And in the server field, enter r25sql.eservices.virginia.edu
  11. And click Next.
  12. Choose the “With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user” option.
  13. Enter your R25 userid and password and click Next.
  14. Click on the “Change default database to:” checkbox and be sure it reads r25v3 in the dropdown list and click Next.
  15. Click Finish.
  16. Click OK.


4. Install R25: choose directions for your operating system.
    4a. Install R25 software for Windows XP:
    1. Double click on the r25wxp32.exe file.
    2. If prompted with a Windows security message , click Run.
    3. Click Start.
    4. Make sure “Full” is selected and click Next.
    5. Make sure (none) is chosen for “SIS Type” and click Next.
    6. Enter in C:\R25v3 into the white textbox and choose Next.
    7. Use the Default Program Manager Group and click Next.
    8. Make sure “Install Crystal Reports version 8.5” is NOT checked and click Next.
    9. Click Install.
    10. Click No on the View Readme window.
    11. Click Finish.


    4b. Install R25 software for Windows 2000:
    1. Double click on the r25w2k32.exe file.
    2. If prompted with a Windows security message , click Run.
    3. Click Start.
    4. Make sure “Full” is selected and click Next.
    5. Make sure (none) is chosen for “SIS Type” and click Next.
    6. Enter in C:\R25v3 into the white textbox and choose Next.
    7. Use the Default Program Manager Group and click Next.
    8. Make sure “Install Crystal Reports version 8.5” is NOT checked and click Next.
    9. Click Install.
    10. Click No on the View Readme window.
    11. Click Finish.


5. Install the latest R25 patches:
  1. Double click on the r25v32_patches_041022.zip file.
  2. If Winzip opens the file (in classic mode),
    1. Click on the Extract button.
    2. Enter C:\R25v3 in the “Extract to” textbox and click Extract.
    3. Click Yes to All.
    4. Close Winzip by choosing File, then Exit from the toolbar.
  3. If Winzip opens the file (in wizard mode),
    1. Click on the Next button.
    2. Make sure Unzip or install from an existing Zip file is bulleted and click on the Next button.
    3. If a pop-up box appears, choose Search disk and choose your CD-Rom drive.
    4. Click on the OK button.
    5. Double click on the r25v32_patches_041022.zip file listed in the window.
    6. Click on the Select different folder button.
    7. Enter C:\R25v3 in the “Select folder” textbox and click OK.
    8. Click on the Unzip now button.
    9. Close Winzip by clicking on the Close button.
  4. If Windows opens the file and you see folders and files in a window,
    1. Choose File, then Extract All from the toolbar.
    2. Click Next.
    3. Enter C:\R25v3 in the “Files will be extracted to this directory:” textbox and click Next.
    4. Click Yes to All.
    5. Click Finish.
    6. Close the open file window(s) by choosing File, then Close from the toolbar.


6. Configure R25 software:
  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Choose Programs.
  3. Choose R25 v3.2.
  4. Choose Configure.
  5. Click on the Start button.
  6. Make sure “Same user name and password” is selected and click Next.
  7. Make sure “Microsoft SQL Server” is selected and click Next.
  8. Make sure “Version 2000 (with ODBC)” is selected and click Next.
  9. Enter r25usr:r25v3 into the white text box and click Next.
  10. Enter r25usr into the white text box and make sure “Configure Reports for this datasource” checkbox is selected and click Next.
  11. Enter your R25 userid and password and click Next.
  12. Use the default directory that is showing and click Next.
  13. Click Apply.
  14. You will now see the reports will now load for R25. Once this is finished, click Finish.


7. Fix the calendar viewer error:
  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Choose Run.
  3. Enter in C:\R25v3\system\controls.exe and click OK.
  4. The installation should run quickly and update for this error.


8. Access the R25 software:
  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Choose Programs.
  3. Choose R25 v3.2.
  4. Choose R25.
