This seminar takes place twice a semester at the house of one of the faculty members of the department and attendance is restricted to faculty members. One member of the faculty reads a work in progress. It has been taking place for 28 years or more.

The speaker will be Joel Rini and the topic "When Spanish h- Went Silent. How Do We Know?" The seminar will meet at 8:00 P.M. at Mr. Haberly's house.

"Las leyendas de José Asunción Silva"

Sumario: Al morir José Asunción Silva en tiempos en que Colombia estaba sometida a un régimen conservador conocido como "La Regeneración", sus amigos se vieron en una encrucijada: respetar los designios de la Iglesia Católica que juzgaba con dureza a los suicidas y celebrar la vida y la obra del poeta. Algunos de ellos pidieron perdón por el poeta "incomprendido". Fue sobre esta base que elevaron a Silva a la dimensión supra-humana y supra-estética que todavía ocupa en la historia literaria de Colombia.
