Moratorium on Spanish Minor Declarations
1 September 2009
Note: The moratorium only applies to students who have not declared the minor. Students who have already declared the minor are not affected by the moratorium.
Our department is no longer accepting minor declarations.
The decision to have a moratorium on minor declarations has been a very difficult one to take. We have taken this measure because minors compete for courses with majors who need the courses to graduate.
Doing a minor is an enriching option for many students, but no one needs a minor to graduate. It might interest you to know that the Director of the Office of Career Services has assured us that minors do not matter to employers.
Students who intended to minor may want to consider declaring a major in Spanish.
Students who have not declared the minor and have fewer than three courses remaining to complete the minor may write an appeal to the Director of Undergraduate Studies to allow them to finish the minor. All appeals must be received by October 1, 2009.
