Office of Sponsored Programs provides a broad range of educational
opportunities enhance your knowledge and skills in proposal development, award management and compliance throughout the sponsored programs life cycle.

Q. What educational and outreach services does OSP offer?
A:
- Workshops/classes- face-to-face instruction, typically offered twice a year during Fall and Spring
- Web modules - online versions of classes and references for those individuals needing just-in-time instruction in sponsored programs concepts and practices
- Reference Pages - web pages on the OSP website that include presentation handouts, overviews of concepts, and tools/calculators to assist you in the management of your sponsored awards
- School/Department/Unit-specific outreach - our team is always available to come to departments and schools to provide consultation and education on issues surrounding management of sponsored programs at the local level. Contact us to arrange an event in your area.
Q. How
do you track attendance at educational events and completion of online courses?
A:Attendance at classes, Research Administration Forums, and completion of online educational modules are tracked in the Integrated System and appear on the employee’s Learner History in Self Service Time and Leave.

Time and Effort Certification: An
Introduction to the Concepts and UVA Practices |
Provides an overview of the conceptual framework underpinning the effort reporting process at UVA, and provides case studies for participants to apply their knowledge. The course introduces the “Effort@UVA” electronic reporting system and is mandatory for all individuals holding the role of “Effort Reporting Coordinator (ERC)” in Effort@UVA. Participants are encouraged to take the “Effort@UVA Tools
and Navigation” course for hands-on practice in a computer lab setting |

is available on OSP’s website, including FAQs, simulations, reporting
calendars, system help and a brief online overview targeted towards faculty. |

Q: What sequence of classes/courses do you recommend for new research
administrators?
A: Begin with RA@UVA – if a face-to-face session isn’t currently offered, be sure and complete the RA@UVA Online Module, to get an overview of the Research Administration process at UVA.We also recommend taking a face-to-face session to reinforce the concepts from the online course.
Q: Do OSP classes count as contact hours towards Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification?
A: Yes. Each hour spent in a research administration related educational activity counts as one contact hour towards recertification. (See "Ways to Earn Contact Hours" on the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) website for more information on earning these hours).
Note: CRA's are responsible for maintaining documentation of all contact hours for verfication purposes by the RACC.
