The OSP Pre-award group works with faculty and administrators to submit high-quality proposals successfully and (with the OSP Post-award group) effectively manage awards. Staff members assist those preparing proposals, review proposals and ultimately submit them to sponsors on behalf of the university (except for those proposals submitted by the School of Medicine Office of Grants and Contracts). Pre-award staff members negotiate terms and conditions of sponsored research agreements, clinical trial agreements, confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements, and they accept awards on behalf of the university. When awards have been accepted, staff members process appropriate paperwork in order to have accounts (awards/projects) setup in the Integrated System so that expenditures can be charged. Throughout the life of awards, pre-award staff members process award modifications and provide advice and technical assistance to faculty and administrators regarding award management.
