Celebrate Every Body Week February 20th-24th, 2012
Celebrate Every Body Week aims to promote positive body image for women and men of all shapes and sizes through fun and informative activities and events. CEBW is run concurrently with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Information about treatment resources and how to help a friend who is struggling with an eating disorder are highlighted throughout the week.
Day Without Mirrors – When looking in the mirror, compliment yourself. What is great about you? Perhaps it is your friendly smile, your sense of humor, or your sincerity. Do this every time you brush your teeth. It makes a difference!
Great UVa Weigh Out – If the number on the scale is manipulating your mood, try taking a break from weighing. Keep numbers in perspective -- fluctuations of several pounds day to day are normal. Many factors influence weight, including hydration, glycogen (fuel) storage, time of last meal, and for women, menstrual cycle phase. Instead of focusing on your weight, celebrate all your body does for you!
Jeans Giveaway – Instead of dieting or exercising excessively to try to fit unattainable image standards, donate your jeans in exchange for a FREE t-shirt. Men’s and women’s clothing in good condition will be collected at the “Great Jeans Giveaway” table in Newcomb, Monday-Friday, Feb 20-24, 11:00-2:00. All donated items will go to support the Shelter for Help and Emergency (SHE) which provides assistance to women leaving abusive relationships.
Groove Class –Come try out a new way of moving and discover YOUR unique groove! No dance experience necessary. Sample this drop in class for FREE during Celebrate Every Body Week. Sponsored by Intramural-Recreational Sports. WEDNESDAY, Feb 22nd 4:30 pm, AFC.
Eating Disorder Screenings – Concerned about your relationship with food, exercise, or your body? Visit the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) website to take a confidential eating disorders screening on-line. Additionally, counselors at the Women’s Center will offer free and confidential in-person screenings throughout the week (Feb 20-24). Call 434-982-2252 for an appointment.
