U.Va. Coalition on Eating Disorders
(formerly U.Va. CARES)
The U.Va. Coalition on Eating Disorders and Exercise Concerns was established in 1995. The group was organized in response to a growing concern about students with eating disorders, distorted body image, and disordered eating.
Our projects include outreach programs and presentations for sororities, first year students, and other groups. These programs aim to educate students and faculty on the signs and symptoms of eating disorders and disordered eating. We provide information on how to help a friend or family member and we give referrals where needed. We often sponsor guest speakers or performances related to our mission. Lastly, we maintain this website with current information and resources.
The U.Va. Coalition on Eating Disorders and Exercise Concerns is currently meeting on a monthly basis, from 8:15-9:15am every third Tuesday. If you would like to be more involved in promoting a healthy body image and bringing awareness to the issues of eating disorders, over-exercising and related topics to U.Va., please e-mail: UVaEatingDisordersCoalition@virginia.edu
