Additional Information on HPV
TYPE
OF INFECTION: Virus
SYMPTOMS
(one or more of the following):
1.
Usually no symptoms at all
2.
Genital Warts
·
Fleshy, small bumps on genital or anal area
·
Warts near the vagina opening are softer and pink
3. Dysplasia or Cervical
Cancer
·
There are usually no visible symptoms. Occasionally bleeding occurs
between periods or after intercourse.
·
Microscopic changes are present on the cervix.
·
Abnormalities include:
1. atypia
(ASC-US or ASC-H)
2. cervical dysplasia
3. invasive cervical cancer .
DIAGNOSIS:
- Genital Warts
·
Physical exam
- Potentially
precancerous changes on the cervix (= dysplasia)
·
Pap smear
·
Colposcopy
TREATMENT:
Currently,
there is no treatment that cures HPV, i.e., completely rids the
body of the HPV organism. (There is no curative treatment for any of the many viruses that can infect the human body.) But HPV, like most viruses, is eventually killed
off by a healthy person's immune system. However, there are several treatment options
available for treating the various manifestations of HPV infection. It is thought that this helps the body fight
off the virus more quickly and completely.

(freezing the cells with liquid nitrous oxide

Laser Vaporization
·
Hysterectomy
