About Us

  • Performed in the office
  • Initially, a local anesthetic is injected into the cervix
  • The abnormal area on the cervix is removed with an electrical wire loop. The raw surface is cauterized.
  • New healthy cells will grow back.
  • Some spotting and discharge may occur after the procedure. You will be instructed not to put anything into the vagina for at least 3 weeks.
  • Not available at UVa Student Health. Referral to physicians experienced with LEEP can be made when appropriate.
