What
is it?
Avian Influenza ("Bird Flu") refers to an influenza virus that occurs naturally in birds, and is highly contagious among birds. Iinfections with these viruses can occur in humans. Symptoms of avian influenza in humans have ranged from influenza-like symptoms to severe respiratory diseases.
Traveling to Avian Influenza areas of the world?
Students traveling to Avian Influenza areas of the world should review the World Health Organization site for up-to-date information. Students are advised to receive a flu shot and a prescription for Tamiflu prior to departure, which can be obtained by attending our General Medicine Travel Clinic. Call 982-3915 with questions.
