The University Of Virginia Department Of Student Health provides allergy injections for students receiving immunotherapy ordered by an outside Allergist. The clinic is coordinated by a registered nurse who is available to administer injections and consult with your Allergist as indicated. Allergy injections are available by appointment only, Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. We do not offer walk in services. Please follow the steps outlined below if you wish to receive allergy injections while at school.
Ensuring a smooth transition in services requires careful coordination with your Allergist at home. To begin the process, please print a copy of the Hand-off-of-Care form for your Allergist to complete. The information contained in this document will allow your Allergist to provide a summary of your care to date, alert the office staff to the need to prepare your vials and records, and provide them with our contact information. Once completed, the Hand-off-of-Care form should be forwarded to us by fax at the number listed below. Your first appointment, known as an Allergy Clearance, can be scheduled by calling 434-982-3915 once the Hand-off of Care form is received. You must complete the Allergy Clearance prior to receiving your first allergy injection. Once you have had your Allergy Clearance, all subsequent appointments can be scheduled on-line via the Healthy Hoos portal.
The Allergy Clearance appointment will take approximately 40 minutes. At this appointment, the allergy nurse will review the records sent by your Allergist, have you sign a release form giving us permission to work directly with your Allergist, inspect and store your vials for future use, and ask you to review and sign the Allergy Clinic Student Agreement. The Allergy Clinic Student Agreement provides an overview of how the clinic functions and the ways in which we can partner to help you accomplish your therapeutic goals.
Special Note about the Handling of Your Vials: Your vials may be hand delivered or shipped to the address listed below. Vials should be shipped to arrive in no more than two days. The Allergy Nurse should be contacted in advance to ensure Student Health will be open and that we are expecting the package. All packages should be clearly marked: “Refrigerate on Arrival” on the outside of the envelope.
Returning Students: Please note that an updated Hand-off-of-Care form is required annually or following a lengthy break in immunotherapy. If you have any further questions, call 434-924-3915 and ask to speak with the allergy nurse. We look forward to serving you in the upcoming year!
