CAPS Outreach and Prevention Services

CAPS works to strengthen the UVa community by offering outreach and prevention services. We work closely in partnership with students, faculty, and staff to promote mental health and wellness on Grounds. As a key part of our mission, our community based services, prevention efforts, and social justice orientation help us create a healthier, more inclusive community where students can be successful academically, and also thrive as individuals, leaders, and members of their communities.

CAPS outreach and community based services include innovative and culturally inclusive programs, responsive services, delivery of prevention education on a variety of mental health topics, consultation services, community engagement, and collaborations with student groups, residence life, and academic and student affairs departments.

If you are interested in partnering with CAPS or have questions about how CAPS can help support your particular community on Grounds, please contact the Assistant Director for Outreach and Liaison Programming, Andrea Iglesias, Psy.D.

Some of our more frequently requested program types and topics include:

How to request a program:

  • Please make requests at least two weeks in advance, which increases the likelihood that we will be able to accommodate your needs and preferences.
  • If possible, be sure to send us at least 2-3 options for time and date of the program.
  • In making your request, please be specific about the details of the program and what you hope you and your group will get out of it.
  • We are often able to adapt programs to meet the needs of your group (eg size, level of training, role at the university, academic affiliations, cultural considerations). Please be specific about what you think is most useful to your group so that we can tailor programs appropriately.
  • While we try to meet all requests, we are not always available to do so during high volume times of the semester. We will do our best to meet your needs or refer you to other campus and community resources that may be able to help.
