On-call Crisis Intervention

CAPS maintains on-call clinician avaiability during specific hours to respond to students in crisis and to provide consultation to the UVa community. During the week these emergency walk-in and consultation hours are from 11:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

After hours and on weekends or holidays, an on-call clinician is available through the Student Health/CAPS answering service and can be reached by dialing 972-7004. The on-call clinician provides both informational consultation and crisis intervention as needed. After hours, most on-call intervention occurs via telephone contact. Where psychiatric hospitalization of a student may be indicated, but the situation requires further assessment prior to reaching a decision about hospitalization, the on-call clinician may elect to come to U.Va. Grounds for an on-site clinical assessment.
