Post-Disaster
Critical Incident Response Team
In
the event that the University were to experience a large-scale crisis
or disaster that required intervention beyond the scope of CAPS
crisis intervention services, CAPS has incorporated volunteer faculty
from the clinical social sciences departments into a Critical Incident
Stress Management (CISM) response team. This team is composed of
approximately 30 professionals (CAPS staff and faculty) who are
available to function in small teams to provide the U.Va. Community
with post-disaster support groups and debriefings as means of mitigating
the development of pathological post-trauma reactions.
