Individual
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapeutic approaches are tailored to fit students' individual needs. Brief treatment is typically utilized with goals of stabilization and assisting students to return to their normal day-to-day functioning. Treatment modalities cover the range of supportive, cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. When a student is seen for an initial appointment at CAPS, his/her mental health provider will discuss specific treatment options and approaches in more detail at that time.
Sometimes students presenting with more complex issues require longer-term psychotherapy. In these instances then referrals are typically made to other clinics or private practice psychotherapists and psychiatrists within the Charlottesville community.
