Roles in Relation to the University Honor Committee
and the Sexual Assault Hearing Board
When
students are charged with honor violations that are brought before
the University Honor Committee, they will sometimes choose to provide
a "psychological defense" as a means of identifying the
mitigating psychological factors that led to their breach of the
honor code. In these instances students may choose their own mental
health professional to provide psychological/psychiatric assessment
and subsequent representation to the honor committee. Students may
elect to utilize CAPS professionals for this function.
Similarly,
when a student is brought up before the Sexual Assault Hearing Board
a CAPS professional is assigned to provide supportive counseling
and advocacy to the student during the formal hearing process. The
appointed CAPS support professional will also assist in arranging
follow-up counseling and psychotherapy services if such is indicated
following the outcome of the sexual assault hearing.
