Suicide
Prevention Program
The
professional staff at CAPS is strongly committed to ongoing efforts
toward suicide prevention. In 1996 an endowment fund was created
by Mr. Lyell Clay in memory of Harrison Bowne "Tersh" Smith
Jr. This fund supports CAPS' efforts in relation to suicide prevention.
The program entails essential components of community education,
depression and suicide assessment and treatment. The CAPS clinical
staff also attempts to stay abreast of current relevant research
and trends in the field of suicidology. U.Va. faculty, staff, or
student groups interested in arranging for presentations pertaining
to suicide prevention should contact the CAPS Crisis Management
Coordinator for further discussion.
