CAPS
Training Program for Mental Health Professionals
CAPS
provides training opportunities for a variety of mental health professionals-in-training.
The CAPS training program consists of an American
Psychological Association-accredited predoctoral psychology internship
program (3 doctoral interns per year), a psychology master's-level
practicum program (1 student per year), a social work internship
program (2 interns per year), and a psychiatry resident rotation
program (1-2 residents per year). Senior staff at CAPS closely supervise
all clinical services provided by trainees.
The
CAPS training model is conceptualized as a community mental health
model, with the University and its constituents representing the
community served. Trainees therefore learn to provide a range of
services, including direct clinical services to students, consultation
to University personnel, and psychoeducational outreach programs
to non-patient students in the University community.
