Office of Health Promotion Mission
The Office of Health Promotion at Student Health works in partnership with students, faculty, and staff to promote optimal health. Our mission is to share information, develop skills and empower students to make healthy lifestyle choices.
We support health and wellness throughout the university community and provide opportunities for university-wide collaboration.
Office of Health Promotion Goal
The goal of the Office of Health Promotion is to build and support a healthy community at the University of Virginia. We accomplish this goal through Peer Education, social norms marketing, academic courses and special events. We respect the diversity and needs of the university we serve, and promote human dignity throughout our programming efforts.
Health Promotion Services
Health promotion and education services are also pre-paid as part of tuition and fees. Services include educational materials, health consulting visits, special events, outreach presentations, and patient education, along with information and referral services. All of these health promotion services are provided by either professional staff or specially trained students called Peer Health Educators.
Outreach Presentations
Professional staff along with Peer Health Educators and ADAPT provide University and community outreach presentations on a variety of health and wellness related issues.
Patient Education
Professional staff along with Peer Health Educators provide education sessions for patients prior to the receipt of gynecological and medical evaluation, and regarding other health issues.
Special Events
Professional staff provide educational and information services to the University community, state and national health organizations. Additionally, the staff and Peer Educators plan and promote a variety of events focused on student education and interaction each year. The "4th Year 5K" Run/Walk is coordinated through our office.
Educational Materials
Brochures are available on a wide array of health topics.
Health Consulting
