University of Virginia Student Health Insurance Program 2007-08
All students are required by the University to maintain health insurance as a condition of enrollment.
ATTENTION ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: You will be subject to a hard waiver program for the 2007-2008 academic year. For more information on this program, click here.
Following an open and competitive Request for Proposal process, the University selected The Chickering Group to administer the student health plan for the 2007-2008 academic year. There will be no benefit modifications to the 2007-2008 plan. The annual premium will increase by 4.9%. Students may now elect to pay the annual premium in one sum or on a semi-annual (2 payments) or quarterly (4 payments) basis at no additional charge. See the chart and links below for premium and enrollment information.

-Premium rates are cumulative, e.g. student + spouse = $5,330;student + child= $4,872.
Student may enroll either on-line or by downloading a paper enrollment application.
There is no monthly payment option for the student health plan. Spring premiums for individual students may either be paid upfront or two quarterly at no additional charge.
The deadline for spring enrollment is January 31, 2008. NEW THIS YEAR: An Optional Effective Date Purchase is available after the spring enrollment deadline. Students who miss the spring enrollment deadline will have an opportunity to join the plan. When submitting a premium payment for a coverage period other than Annual, Spring/Summer, Summer or Quarterly (i.e. Optional Effective Date Coverage Period) please note, no pro-rated premium is available. Premium will be the same as indicated on the chart above depending on where your requested effective dates falls. Coverage will begin on the day after the submitted on-line enrollment application or the day after the postmark date of a paper application.
Special Enrollment Periods
Chickering has also worked with the University to offer special enrollment periods for students who are starting at the University at different times:
• • December 1 - January 31, 2008: Open enrollment: newly entering spring semester students may purchase a partial year plan including spring/summer coverage and pay the full spring/summer premium. Coverage will be effective January 1 through August 14, 2008.
• • Summer Session Enrollment: Open enrollment: New students attending Summer Session may enroll for May, June, July, and August of the current plan year. Coverage will be effective from May 1 through August 15, 2008.
• • Early Start: Chickering will offer students whose programs have an official start date before August 15, 2007 the opportunity to purchase a policy with a small supplemental premium to cover the weeks before the regular start date in August.
