Domestic Partner Coverage
The University of Virginia is pleased to announce that students enrolled in the Aetna Student Health plan may now enroll domestic partners (same or opposite sex) in the plan. The criteria for this new category of coverage is contained in the affidavit posted here. Students who wish to enroll a domestic partner in the Aetna Student Health plan must (1) complete the affidavit and deliver it to Student Health; and (2) enroll the domestic partner in the plan. The open enrollment period for the Aetna Student Health plan ends on October 6, 2014. The University has extended the open enrollment period for domestic partners only until October 20, 2014. Students may enroll domestic partners in the plan online until October 6, 2014. After October 6, students may enroll domestic partners in the plan via a paper application available at Student Health. Paper applications will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. on October 7, 2014 through 5:00 p.m. on October 20, 2014. To obtain a paper application please email Student Health.

The annual premium for enrolling a spouse or domestic partner in the Aetna Student Health plan is $3,678.00. The University does not contribute or subsidize this cost; students bear the full cost for enrolling any dependent (spouse/domestic partner/child) in the Aetna Student Health plan. The student health plan is distinct from the faculty/staff health plan. The University is unable to provide domestic partner coverage under the faculty/staff plan at this time.

All University of Virginia students are required to maintain health insurance as a condition of enrollment.

The University has renewed its contract with Aetna Student Health to administer the 2014-15 student health plan. The annual premium will decrease by 5%.

NOTES:  Premium rates are cumulative, e.g. student + spouse = $6,123; student + child= $5,601.

Note: If you enroll in the insurance plan, you cannot cancel coverage during the plan period. You will not be entitled to a refund for any unused portion of the plan, regardless of the payment option you select. You are financially responsible for the full premium.

Spring/Summer Session Enrollment: Only new students entering for the spring semester are eligible to purchase a partial year plan for spring/summer coverage at the spring/summer premium of $1,514. Coverage will be effective January 1 through August 14, 2015.
