The
Laboratory is located in Student Health and is a satellite of the
U.Va. Medical Center. The Lab will file claims for tests that are
referred to the main lab in the Medical Center. Student Health asks
for payment at the time of service for in-house lab work and for
some other items (e.g., immunizations, supplies, EKGs, etc.). At
the end of your appointment, you will be given an invoice or "Walkout
Statement" to file an individual claim with your insurance
company. Coverage is dependent upon your plan's benefits. We encourage
you to contact your insurance company to determine coverage (some
insurance plans may or may not provide reimbursement for Student
Health services). If you wish not to bill your insurance company
for main lab services provided, you have the option of paying the
Student Health wholesale price for lab work offered by the Health
System Clinical Laboratories. Please always bring your student identification
card, insurance card, and prescription card (if separate) when visiting
Student Health. Our staff can help determine what type of payment
needs to be made at the time of the visit.
Lab
services provided by the main lab at the Medical Center can only
be paid to their Patient Financial Services. We cannot accept payment
for hospital lab charges. The Medical Center will file claims to
most insurance companies for the costs of ordered laboratory tests.
In order to help facilitate the billing process, Student Health
Front Desk Cashiers will send a copy of your insurance information
to the main lab for insurance billing.
For
routine lab tests, you usually do not have to wait for results.
However, the lab may not know that additional testing is needed
until after you leave. Your care provider will keep you informed.
Upon checkout, you will be asked to arrange payment for your lab
tests. After your visit, you may receive another bill by mail if
additional tests were performed.
All
lab results are confidential. See Price
Schedule (opens PDF file) for types of lab tests performed and
their costs.
