Policy:

  

Injectable potassium chloride will be stored in the emergency narcotic box to prevent errors in medication administration.

F.

Procedure:

KCL injectable will be maintained in the narcotic box and the expiration date will be checked at the same time the narcotic expiration times are reviewed.

All KCL will be returned to pharmacy within 90 days of their expiration date for recrediting.

It will be the nurses working in General Medicine who are responsible for ensuring the maintenance of KCL in the narcotic box.
