Nutrition Services

Nutrition services are provided by a Registered Dietitian and by Peer Health Educators (PHEs). Students who pay the comprehensive student fee with tuition are eligible for nutrition services at no charge.

Concerns commonly addressed in nutrition counseling include but are not limited to:

  • Anemia
  • Diabetes
  • Eating Disorders/Disordered Eating
  • Food Allergy/Intolerance
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Cholesterol
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Vegetarian Eating
  • Weight Management
  • General Healthy Eating (PHEs)

To schedule an appointment, call 924-1509 or stop by the Office of Health Promotion on the ground floor of the Student Health Center.

For concerns related to general healthy eating, initial appointments are conducted by a PHE. For all other concerns, initial appointments are conducted by the dietitian. Initial appointments last for 1 hour and are conducted individually.

Once you schedule your initial appointment, you will need to log into https://www.healthyhoos.virginia.edu and complete the "Nutrition Questionnaire". You will also need to bring a completed Food Log form to your appointment. During this initial session we will begin an assessment, discuss nutrition recommendations, and help you develop a plan to achieve your nutrition goals. After your initial appointment, you are eligible to schedule 25-minute individual follow-up appointments with the dietitian.

In an effort to ensure adequate and appropriate nutrition counseling for all who seek it, there is a 12 session limit for nutrition services. Students who would benefit from a longer duration or more intensive course of nutrition counseling may be referred to another registered dietitian in the community. Exceptions to this policy may be made in extenuating circumstances on a case by case basis. The dietitian will work with each patient individually to determine the appropriate plan of care.

If you have questions, please call 924-1509.
