WHAT IS THE 4th YEAR 5K Run/Walk?
The 4th Year 5K Run/Walk is an event presented every November near the last home football game to provide students with a healthy alternative to the dangers of high-risk drinking.  While the race is an opportunity for students to learn about low-risk drinking behavior, it is also a chance for members of the University and Charlottesville communities to come together to publicly demonstrate their commitment to responsible behavior and healthy living.

The race is presented every year by the Peer Health Educators at the University of Virginia and is made possible by generous support from community sponsors and other University organizations. This generosity allows us to donate the proceeds from the race to the the Leslie Baltz Foundation. This year, the race is the kick-off of Substance Abuse Awareness Week (SAAW) click here for a full schedule of events.

In 1997, Leslie Baltz, a promising fourth year at the University of Virginia, died on the evening of the last home football game as a result of a high-risk drinking accident. The Leslie Baltz Foundation is an art history scholarship fund that was established by the Baltz family and friends to honor Leslie's memory. The Peer Health Educators are proud to collaborate with the Baltz family and friends by holding the 4th Year 5K Run/Walk and donating proceeds from the race to the Leslie Baltz Foundation in honor of Leslie.
