Housing Options for SLI Students

On-Grounds

General Summer Session housing is available for those students who wish to live on Grounds.  We regret that high school students are NOT eligible to reside in university residence halls.  This year the Housing and Residence Life Accommodations Office has set aside two newly constructed 6-story halls for summer session students, Balz-Dobie and Watson-Webb, located in the Alderman Road Residence Area. You can reserve a room by following the link to Conference Services.

Please note that dormitory housing is not linked to the SLI (the exception is the Tibet House—see below).  However, the Accommodatins Office will make an effort to cluster SLI students in the same wing and assign roommates based on language program, whenever possible.  You can indicate your affiliation with SLI and your target language on the online registration form.

The cost of living in the university dormitory is $24 per person per night for a double room. The dorms have no kitchen facilities.

For assistance with housing reservations: email Halima Giwa-Osagie or contact her by phone: 434-243-5128 or 434-924-4479.

Tibetan Language House

Tibetan SLI students should not miss the opportunity to reside in the Tibet House! Find out how much more rewarding and effective it is to pursue your studies in the company of other dedicated language learners. Known during the regular academic year as the “Casa Bolivar”, come summer this language house will undergo a Tibetan interior make-over.  One of your native speaking instructors will live with you in the house, facilitating the use of Tibetan every waking hour and extending your explorations of Tibetan culture beyond the classroom.  The cost of living in the Tibet House is $24 per person per night for a double and $32 per night for a single. There are a limited number of single rooms, which will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Online reservations forms are now available through Conference Services. Questions should be directed to Halima Giwa-Osagie at 434-243-5128 or 434-924-4479.

Off-Grounds

SLI students are not required to live on-Grounds: There are many off-campus houses and apartments for sublet in the summertime within close proximity of the university. Please see the off-grounds housing page for information on how to find a sublet house or apartment. Or, contact the Off-Grounds Housing manager, Vicki Hawes at vlh4n@virginia.edu.
