Add a Course

Deadline
Before midnight on the first day the class meets.

Procedures
Add course online through SIS

Record on Transcript
The course appears for credit.


Drop a Course while remaining enrolled in other Summer Session courses

Deadline
Before midnight on the midpoint of the course.

Procedures
Drop course online through SIS.

Record on Transcript
No record; the course is deleted.

Refunds
If you have received financial aid for Summer Session, notify Student Financial Services that you are dropping a course. Dropping below 6 credits will result in all summer financial aid being cancelled. Remember all undergraduate and graduate students must take a minimum of 6 credits to receive financial aid.

Refunds are based on course meeting days as follows:

Registration through Day 2 100%
Day 3, 4, and 5 75%
Day 6 50%
After Day 6 0%

Curry Sessions Refund
Registration through 4:30 P.M. on Day 2 100%
Days 3 and 4 75%
Day 5 50%
After Day 5 0%

Withdraw from a Course while remaining enrolled in other Summer Session courses

Procedures
After the drop deadline and before the withdrawal deadline withdraw from a course online through SIS.

Record on Transcript
Course appears with a grade of W, WP, or WF, as assigned by instructor;
ARCH, SED, GED, SEAS, and GEAS students may receive W, WP, or WF.
CLAS, NURS, and GNUR students will receive a W.
SCC students are not allowed to withdraw.

Refunds
Tuition cannot be refunded or credited.

Course Changes After Withdrawal Deadline
Any course changes made after the withdrawal must be made in person in the Summer and Special Academic Programs Office.


Change Grade Options

Deadline
For CLAS and visiting undergraduate students, before 4:30 on the midpoint of the course.

Procedures
This cannot be done through SIS.

College of Arts and Sciences students may change the grading option in a course through the course mid-point. Visiting students will follow the rules of the school through which the course is offered. Other UVa students must follow the rules of their school. Commerce School courses may not be taken on CR/NC basis.

Students may audit with permission of the instructor. No credits or grade points are earned in audited courses. The cost of auditing a course is the same as taking the course for credit. Students in the School of Architecture and the Summer Language Institute may not audit any course.

The appropriate section of the Course Action Form must be completed. Select the appropriate box under the grade option section. The form is available in the Office of Summer and Special Academic Programs and online at www.virginia.edu/registrar/courseactionform.html
