Project Plan for 2004-2005

  1. Continue with focus groups, expanding regional scope and involvement. Focus groups planned for this year include Houston and San Antonio/Austin (fall 2004), Charlotte (fall 2004), Northern California (spring 2005), and Boston (spring 2005). In addition, a focus group opportunity is planned for Reunions 2005.
  2. With the help of key WLP participants and University staff, hold follow-up events showcasing prestigious University faculty and administrators and talented alumnae in cities where focus group sessions were previously conducted.
  3. Explore establishing a national Women in Leadership & Philanthropy Committee at the University of Virginia. The committee would focus on communicating better the interests of alumnae to the University; promoting women for volunteer service at the University; encouraging alumnae, women parents and friends to support the University philanthropically; fostering better representation of women in University communications, programs and outreach. Specific membership, mission and goals for this committee will be determined.
  4. Continue outreach to the University community and the alumni/alumnae population about the Women in Leadership & Philanthropy program. Use internal and external meetings and publications to inform about the program's goals and activities.
  5. Continue to maintain list of women interested and ready for volunteer leadership positions at the University. Advocate for qualified women candidates to fill open committee slots throughout the University.
  6. Report on a survey of alumnae concerning their attitudes to the University. WLP assisted a Curry School Ed.D. student who conducted a survey of U.Va. alumnae as part of her dissertation research. The survey provided quantitative data about women's attitudes toward university philanthropy and their involvement as volunteer leaders. Responses will be posted on the WLP website by August 2004.
  7. Create greater WLP presence and programming at Reunions. WLP will sponsor Reunions activities to better involve alumnae from all classes, including a Reunions focus group opportunity, and to provide information on financial management tailored to women.
