Larry D. HollenLarry Dean Hollen was a beloved member of CSR's staff until his tragic death on October 19, 2008. Larry joined CSR in 1998 as a lead interviewer in the CATI Lab and conducted some of the more arduous interviews for the Center, including all of the surveys of physical therapy clients for the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center (1998-2000). In 1999, Mr. Hollen became Lab Supervisor, providing staffing and scheduling and coordinating the progressive stages in project development from pre-testing phase through production and conversion. He also served as project coordinator for a variety of studies. In 2000, Mr. Hollen became CATI Lab Manager, coordinating the efforts of supervisors and interviewers as well as managing recruiting and retention, training and development, and quality assurance through monitoring and coaching of interviewers. He was an important member of CSR's staff during a period of growth and change, especially for the telephone lab.
Larry is remembered for his wry wit, grammatical precision, down-to-earth clarity in training sessions, and alacrity in taking action to coach interviewers through the most difficult of respondents. Interviewers whose dialings dropped below average could expect to be cheerfully yet authoritatively reminded that they "were working for the Commonwealth of Virginia and Mr. Jefferson's University . . . and that's a sacred trust." Mr. Hollen was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a BA Degree in Commerce and Communication. He will be sorely missed.
