Faculty Staff Get Involved - Final     Green Workplace Program: The U.Va. Green Workplace Program is a certification program that guides and recognizes U.Va. workplaces that are taking a leadership role in implementing sustainable workplace practices.

Online Employee Training: “Sustainability @UVa: You Can Make a Positive Difference” is a new tool to help University employees learn about and embrace green practices. The 45-minute online program defines sustainability, highlights current efforts and offers tips on adopting environmentally friendly practices. University employees can view and sign-up for the program within Employee Self-Service in the Integrated System. They can also arrange an interactive presentation by contacting Jessica Wenger, environmental projects manager in U.Va.’s Environmental Health and Safety, at jsw6d@virginia.edu or 434-982-5540.

Sustainability Partners: Make a difference by joining Sustainability Partners, a group of employees interested in creating and promoting a Grounds-wide commitment to sustainability. Environmental Impact Sub-Committee Working Groups: The Environmental Impact Sub-Committee is a sub-committee of the Committee on Sustainability, with several working groups.  The working groups (Energy, Water, Stormwater, Light Pollution, Dining, Materials, Transportation, Open Space) welcome new staff, student, and faculty members throughout the year, to help advance sustainability on Grounds.   To get involved, email sustainability@virginia.edu

Students

Students Get Involved    With over 40 groups on Grounds that embrace sustainability in their mission, there are plenty of ways for students to get involved.  Beyond joining a group, U.Va. offers a variety of programs that helps you embrace sustainability through related events, actions and courses available to you. Sustainability Advocates: The Sustainability Advocates program works to educate and implement sustainability efforts in resident areas across Grounds. Sustainability Advocates work directly with Resident Advisers, U.Va. Sustainability and many student groups to engage on-Grounds students in recycling, energy and water conservation initiatives and  participate in the largest sustainability events at U.Va. Represent your resident hall and become a sustainability leader at U.Va.

Green Grounds: The Green Grounds Group is dedicated to education and advocating for sustainable planning, design, implementation and operations, holding the belief that sustainable practices should and can be a part of the U.Va. growth strategy. It was formed in 2004 by planning and architecture students to address green design at the University. The group sponsors projects that encompass a range of sustainable design ideas from green roofs to energy use to transportation, such as the Smart Transportation Map, and works with a diverse set of University and community members.  For more information, visit www.facebook.com/greengrounds
