U.Va. Office for Sustainability 2015 Student Employee Program

The U.Va. Office for Sustainability is hiring a summer student employee to support and advance U.Va.’s Green Workplace Program. Additionally, the student will work on supporting the development and advancement of new outreach programs, such as the Green Labs program, and supporting ongoing communications efforts, such as writing articles. Although support will be provided through the Office for Sustainability, this position will require a large amount of self-directed work. Interested students should feel comfortable working independently, seeking out information from a variety of sources, and working with a range of experts across the University to gather the needed information.

The U.Va. Office for Sustainability is hiring a summer student employee to support the development and implementation of various action plans for meeting U.Va.’s sustainability goals. This will include inventories and assessments of existing water fixtures, compiling data, creating tools such as LEED templates, and other tasks. Although support will be provided through the Office for Sustainability, this position will require a large amount of self-directed work. Interested students should feel comfortable working independently, seeking out information from a variety of sources, and working with a range of experts across the University to gather the needed information.

Sustainability Student Employees (5-20 hours/week) Fall 2015 Cavlink Job ID number: 23139

Sustainability Student Employees are committed to making sustainability part of the U.Va. community. The students work in teams to address four key areas of sustainability: Recycling, Energy & Water, Student Outreach and U.Va. Sustainability Promotion. Through various events and programs, the student employees coordinate & communicate the University’s sustainability efforts and educate their peers on ways to be more sustainable. Student employees will work to support Sustainability Program projects and report to the Sustainability Outreach Program Manager.
• Several positions will become open for Fall 2015, with minimum work-time dedicated to be no less than four hours per week. In addition, a required, weekly one-hour meeting will be scheduled during normal business hours. Student Employees can work up to 20 hours a week.
• Student employees work in teams to coordinate major university-wide outreach events and identify new and creative programming to increase sustainability awareness.
• Professional skill development opportunities include: event planning and coordination, team building, volunteer coordination, program development, research and communication.
• Student employees should feel comfortable standing out and reaching out to others. Most of the work involves public advocacy for sustainability and working with departments and individuals at U.Va. Positive, excited attitude a must!
