HIGHER
EDUCATION COMES with a high price tag,
hence the inevitable — U.Va. tuition is
going up. The tuition forecast for the
next five years dominated
discussion
during
the recent Board of Visitors
session
held
Feb. 3 and 4. Board members expressed a
consensus for a more conservative pricing
plan that
ties tuition to the total cost of education,
and not to market value. Under such a plan,
tuition could rise by 9.95 percent
each year
for the
next five years
— and
possibly more, depending on the state’s
funding commitments. Full
story.

With
the Civil Rights era now a page in history,
many Americans, young people especially,
don’t grasp an appreciation for the
courageous black leaders of that era,
according to U.Va. law professor Michael
Klarman, during a recent talk to kick off
the Law School’s celebration of Black
History Month. Full

Candy,
cards and flowers mark
that special day in February that’s
dedicated to sweethearts everywhere. As
Valentine’s Day approaches, for many,
love is in the air. But for some, love
is replaced by dispair. No matter what
month, some relationships thought to be
eternal bliss end up down the drain. So,
how do you mend a broken heart around Valentine’s
or any other day for that matter? U.Va.
psychology graduate David Sbarra, who researched
the ups and downs of romance, has some
ideas. Full
story.
