William H. Goodwin Jr. and Alice T. Goodwin
Board Honors Goodwins for Their Commitment to the University

U.VA. BOARD MEMBER and longtime benefactor William H. Goodwin Jr. received a standing ovation at Saturday’s Board of Visitors meeting as two resolutions in his honor were passed. The first resolution commended Goodwin for his exceptional leadership as a board member over the last eight years. The second declared that the Emmet Street pedestrian bridge be named the Goodwin Bridge in honor of Goodwin and his wife Alice T. Goodwin. Full story.

U.Va.’s Darden School Foundation Names Ann Taylor Executive Director

U.Va.’s Darden Graduate School of Business Administration and the Darden School Foundation recently announced the appointment of Ann Taylor as executive director of the foundation. The foundation is an independent, tax-exempt corporation dedicated to the advancement of the Darden School. “Ann brings exceptional background and experience in business, in foundations and with Darden and U.Va.,” said Robert S. Harris, dean of the Darden School. Full story.

Sophisticated Patient Simulator Wows Crowd at Nursing School Open House

He’s no dummy, he’s SimMan, the latest teaching tool acquired by U.Va.’s School of Nursing. The high-tech mannequin made his debut at the nursing school’s recent open house. Powered by a computer, SimMan’s lifelike capabilities include breathing and verbal communication. At the touch of a button, SimMan can simulate a variety of symptoms such as coughing and moaning. Reba Childress (far left), director of the nursing school’s Laboratories for Clinical Learning, and grad student Margie Blevins check SimMan’s blood pressure and heartbeat. Full story.
