Jewish Texts Offer a Guide to Interpreting Dreams

Vanessa and Elizabeth OchsWHAT IS THE STUFF dreams are made of? Vanessa Ochs, the Ida and Nathan Kolodiz Director of Jewish Studies at U.Va., along with her daughter, Brown University student Elizabeth Ochs, have written a new “dream book” that draws from ancient and modern Jewish texts and offers a range of teachings and practices used in interpretation. “The Jewish Dream Book: The Key to Opening the Inner Meaning of Your Dreams” is intended to enrich readers’ lives spritually through a better understanding of their dreams. Study Shows Method of Protecting Chromosomes

Characteristic of most cancer cells is aneuploidy, a condition where the cells don’t have the right number of chromosomes. In a recent study, U.Va. Health System researchers show how cells protect themselves against aneuploidy during the cell division process, known as mitosis. Full story.

Emery: Divorce and How it Affects the Children

In an ideal world, all children would grow up in happy, two-parent homes. In the real world, lots of children don’t get this option. Most children of divorce have no problem adjusting emotionally, but lots of kids do, according to Robert Emery, director of the U.Va. Center for Children, Families and the Law. Full story.

The Decade Plan: Access, Service, Communication

As the U.Va. Health System continued to advance as an outstanding health care institution, the time called for a strategic plan. The joint collaboration between all departments in the Health System, spanning the next 10 years, was implemented to focus on the areas of access, service and communications. The plan’s ultimate goal: to enhance access for patients throughout the Health System. Reaching goals will require some changes. “We are working to make systems consistent across the Health System,” said Pamela Cipriano, co-chair of the Access, Service and Communication Committee.
