Governor Warner Appoints Three to U.Va.’s Board; Reappoints Thomas F. Farrell II as Vice Rector

THREE NEW FACES will be among the crowd when U.Va.’s Board of Visitors next meets on March 31. Gov. Mark R. Warner has announced the appointment of A. MacDonald “Mac” Caputo (top left), a prominent New York banking member; former state Del. Alan A. Diamonstein (top right); and Norfolk lawyer Vincent J. Mastracco Jr. (bottom right). Gas Prices Got You Down: Find a Commuting Buddy Through New Database

Has your wallet felt the extra squeeze at the gas pumps lately? Well, brace yourselves, because prices haven’t stopped climbing yet. To remedy driving frustrations, U.Va.’s Health System has set up an online “Ride Board” where people can sign up to car pool to work. By entering your address and your destination, as well as your driving preference and frequency, you can be included in the database with other participants in your area. Full story.

Health System Helps Nurses Better Help Their Patients

A nurse’s work is never done. As collaborators, they work with patients and families, physicians and other staff members to provide the best possible care and satisfaction. And U.Va.’s Professional Nursing Staff Organization is emphasizing how critical their role is in the delivery of high-quality care. “Our goal is to improve the work life of nurses so that they can focus more fully on meeting patient needs,” said Beth Dierdorf, the organization’s president.
