U.Va.’s Klarman Wins Bancroft Prize for His Book on the Intellectual History of the American South

MICHAEL J. KLARMAN, the James Monroe Distinguished Professor of Law and professor of History at U.Va., is one of three esteemed historians to win the distinguished Bancroft Prize, awarded by Columbia University, for his acclaimed book, “From Jim Crow to Civil Rights: The Supreme Court and the Struggle for Racial Equality.” Full story.

U.Va. to Help Pay Ivy Landfill Clean-up Costs

Efforts to clean up organic materials that have seeped from closed trash cells in the Ivy landfill, contaminating ground water, are projected to cost roughly $42 million. In an agreement between the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, U.Va. will contribute up to $2.9 million of the remediation work, which will actively take place over the next five or 10 years. Collaborative Efforts Result in Stronger Set of Procedures for Handling Sexual Assault Cases

students walkingAfter an extensive collaboration involving U.Va. students, faculty, administrators and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, the University has adopted a newly revised set of procedures for handling sexual assault cases among students. In addition to the revised procedures, U.Va. has adopted a set of operating principles to guide activities associated with administering the procedures. Full story.
