E-mail to Students Details New Procedures for Handling Sexual Assault Cases

AFTER AN EXTENSIVE collaboration involving U.Va. students, faculty, administrators and the Vice President for Student Affairs, Patricia M. Lampkin (left), the University has adopted a newly revised set of procedures for handling sexual assault cases among students. In addition to the revised procedures, U.Va. has adopted a set of operating principles to guide activities associated with administering the procedures. Weekend Conference to Examine Long-Standing Conflict in  Colombia

More than 2 million people have been displaced and hundreds of thousands killed as the result of a 60-year conflict in Colombia. Not only does this conflict threaten Colombia, it greatly impacts surrounding countries, the United States and the rest of the world. How did this conflict begin? What keeps it going? These questions and more will be addressed during a student-sponsored conference to be held Saturday at U.Va.’s Miller Center of Public Affairs titled “Looking Forward: Understanding the Conflict in Colombia.” Conference schedule.

Doctors Use PDAs to Diagnose Asthma Patients

New technology is working for asthma patients at the Health System. U.Va. doctors are the first to evaluate the use of personal digital assistants for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma. This up-and-coming bedside technology also reflects a national movement from narrative medicine —— where doctor knows best —— to evidence-based medicine, where both doctor and patient have improved access to information to make medical decisions.
