Thomas Jefferson statue  

THIRTY-NINE STUDENTS have been awarded this year’s Jefferson Scholarships, announced last week by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Board of Directors. The full, four-year scholarships cover tuition, room and board, books and other University expenses for incoming students who demonstrate extraordinary potential in scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Parking & Transportation to Implement Delayed Parking Increases

U.Va. parking permit-holders will see an increase in fees effective June 1. Planned for last year, the rate hike was deferred due to the lack of pay raises for employees — the second deferral during a three-year plan designed to gradually raise revenue. “We have been happy to forego these increases in times of sacrifice for University employees, but at some point we need to begin addressing some pressing needs,” said Rebecca White, director of U.Va. Parking and Transportation. Full story.

Digital  History Center Reaches Out to Virginia Schools

Letters, historical records, maps, archives, newspaper articles, and photos such as “Colored School” from the Jackson Davis Collection in U.Va.’s Special Collections (above) — invaluable historical resources available at one’s fingertips via the Web and the Virginia Center for Digital History. Access to historical data has never been easier for schools, colleges, libraries, historical societies and the general public. Thanks to the efforts of Andy Mink, director of the center’s outreach for primary- and secondary-school teachers, more Virginia schools are tapping into the center’s resources and learning a new approach to teaching history.
