U.Va. Researchers Work to Help Asthma Sufferers Breathe a Little Easier

Exercise can be the best medicine for many health-related conditions. Asthma is no exception. “Where people with asthma may believe that their condition keeps them from physical activity, we can show them how it will help,” said Dr. Susan Pollart, vice chair of the University of Virginia Health System’s Family Medicine Department and lead investigator for a new exercise study designed to help people living with asthma improve their symptoms by changing their lifestyles. Asthma is the third leading cause of hospitalization for children and costs the U.S. healthcare system billions of dollars each year.   Full story.

High Gas Prices, Traffic Congestion, Parking Headaches: It Makes Good Cents to Commute

Imagine commuting to work without ever having to fuel up at the gas pumps. University of Virgnia employee Bess Sadler (right), has found out that bicycling to work is a great way to save money and avoid the headaches of parking, not to mention get some exercise. National Clean Commute Day on Friday is a great time for other employees to consider the advantages of various commuting options such as vanpooling or riding the bus. Full story.
