THE
COURSE IS CALLED "Designing Matter,"
but it is a long, long way from being an esoteric
engineering course. One of the University's initial
"common course" offerings, the instructors
come from several disciplines to address science-based
issues, often with a humanities spin. The enrollment
includes students from many different majors,
including biology chemistry, art education, environmental
sciences, English and anthropology. "Everybody
— including the instructors and TAs —
works outside their field," said course coordinator
and chemistry professor Cassandra Fraser (left).
